The Word is a series of interviews hosted by broadcaster, Miranda Rae. Miranda’s drive is to give a voice to the voiceless and platform to people that all too often go unheard, from the streets to the board room from politicians to performers, from authors to activists. Miranda has presented on national, regional and local radio for over 30 yrs inc a weekly show on BBC Radio 5 for which she won a Sony Award. Miranda was also on Galaxy Radio for almost 10 years (now Kiss) where she trailblazed the then emerging dance music scene giving a platform to genres previously never played on the legal airwaves before... Awards also include Best Documentary in the British Podcast Awards, Best Doc in the European Lovie Awards, Honouree Winner in the global Webby Awards & nominated for the ARIAS (Oscars of Radio) all for the series ”Our Journey”. Miranda won Presenter of The Year in the regional MMG Awards & currently runs Ujima Radio and Sound Women SW Network aka Sound women Bristol CIC which is a non profit support network and in the last 3 years has taught over 1000 women and girls in a range or radio, podcasting and media skills. In July of this year Extinction Rebellion and what they called an "Summer Uprising" across 5 cities in UK. Bristol being one of them. A week long of demonstrations and civil disobedience had a massive affect on the city, was this a success? Did they go to far? I invited a spokesperson from XR, Peninah Achieng and Steven Draper who will brave enough to represent the residents of Bristol. We also from the people of Bristol and an exclusive speech from singer/songwriter and activist Billy Bragg.

In this podcast we meeting child prodigy, Amira. At just 9yrs old Amira auditioned for Hollands got Talent, she not only wowed the judges but the world as her performance gained 36 million views on You Tube and went on to win HGT! 5 years later and Amira has become a global sensation and has triumphed as an opera singer. Not only is she an incredible singer but an inspriational role model dedicating her time to raising money for her charity, Gelukskinder Foundation which builds playgrounds for underprivieleged children in South African townships. To date, Amira has been responsible for the building of five such playgrounds. Join me when I chat to Amira live from South Afrika and play a song from her album, Merry Christmas!

We had an incredible young man visit Ujima Radio, Jonathan from the Maasai Tribe in Kenya talks to me about growing up as an ophan and the incredible charity work he does. He is in UK to raise money and for the MAYOO Youth Outreach Project. The youth project currently houses over 150 young girls feeling from FGM and arranged marriages. They also despeately need clean water supplies and with your help this can be done. At this time of year we can fritter money and spend money that we dont need to. Why not donate whatever you can afford to this incredible project. So far over 50 girls are in secondary educucation thanks to all the donations. Jonathan was also funded by an American family, he was orphaned at 5yrs old and they paid for his entire education right through to University and now he wants to give something back.
