The Word is a series of interviews hosted by broadcaster, Miranda Rae. Miranda’s drive is to give a voice to the voiceless and platform to people that all too often go unheard, from the streets to the board room from politicians to performers, from authors to activists. Miranda has presented on national, regional and local radio for over 30 yrs inc a weekly show on BBC Radio 5 for which she won a Sony Award. Miranda was also on Galaxy Radio for almost 10 years (now Kiss) where she trailblazed the then emerging dance music scene giving a platform to genres previously never played on the legal airwaves before... Awards also include Best Documentary in the British Podcast Awards, Best Doc in the European Lovie Awards, Honouree Winner in the global Webby Awards & nominated for the ARIAS (Oscars of Radio) all for the series ”Our Journey”. Miranda won Presenter of The Year in the regional MMG Awards & currently runs Ujima Radio and Sound Women SW Network aka Sound women Bristol CIC which is a non profit support network and in the last 3 years has taught over 1000 women and girls in a range or radio, podcasting and media skills. Join MIranda Rae for this incredible special Christmas Day edition of The Word featuring an awesome array of guests. In this festive celebration Miranda meets with Birdgirl aka Dr Mya-Rose Craig. At just 18 Birdgirl has been made an honoury Doctarate by University of Bristol for her incredible charity work with Black 2 Nature and sharing wildlife with kids from the BAME community, she has seen over half of the worlds population of birds and battling social and environmental issues are a daily mission for this young activist. Guests also include Filmmaker and Director Paul Holbrook from Shrunk Films, multi-award winner and currently working on a new short film called Hollow, Paul is joined by Actress and writer Laura Bayston. They share fascinating insights in to the film making and acting world. Finally Miranda also shares her Christmas Day with 3 x Grammy Award winning The Sounds of Blackness. Musical Director and founder of The Sounds of Blackness, Gary Dennis Hines returns to The Word ahead of their 50th anniversary in January 2021. Gary shares some incredible stories about working with legends Stevie Wonder and Prince. The Sounds of Blackness is not only is one of the world's leading Gospel choirs consisting of some of the best musicians and singers but at the very heart of all they do is to battle social injustice and racism.
