Afrikan Queens - Episode 2 - Nanny of the Maroons.
In this episode we learn about Nanny of the Maroons through the lens of one of our modern sheros and leaders, the Deputy Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Asher Craig.
Asher is the first Rastafarian councillor in Europe. Asher took part in the Razana Afrika Exhibition and chose to research and embody Nanny of the Maroons so Asher shares her learnings with us. We also hear from the founders of Razana Afrika, Christelle and Shawn and also Jendayi Serwarh.
Afrikan Queens is a 10 part series celebrating our ancestors and Afrikan Queens and Sheroes that all too often have been forgotten or left out of the history books. The 1st episode of Afrikan Queens sets up the series & explains the importance of sharing this rarely heard of history. We launched the series on International Womens Day as the Queens & Sheroes we will feature are wonderfully inspiring & great role models, this series is a celebration of women.
We have collaborated with a community project called Razana Africa to educate, empower & inspire.
Afrikan Queens is produced by Miranda Rae of SWSW Network and supported by The Audio Content Fund.
